BJJ

Crosse Training Jiu Jitsu is lead by BJJ Black Belt Tyrone Crosse, a student of the world renowned John Will.  Tyrone’s students have benefited greatly from his vast experience in street and sport grappling and his unique approach towards competition.

Classes offer:

  • A structured curriculum
  • Techniques and skills that are developed and practiced under close supervision
  • Training that is constantly monitored and assessed
  • Improved fitness, speed, reactions and confidence

BJJ promotes a principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themself against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; most notably, by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. Jiu Jitsu can be trained for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as ‘rolling’) and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu arrived on the Australian martial arts scene in early 1989. It was introduced here by John Will(coach of Tyrone Crosse) upon his return from a training trip to Brazil in the company of Rigan Machado. There are really only four main levels within the BJJ system; blue belt, purple belt, brown belt and finally black belt. Sometimes years are spent on each belt; so even within the system itself, things progress slowly but surely. Many schools outside of Brazil are run by blue and purple belts; and fewer again by the browns and blacks, ‘quality’ being the traditional hallmark of the BJJ school.

Now, though, through media exposure and the popularity of the UFC and other MMA(mixed martial arts) type events, BJJ has entered the public domain. As a consequence of this, there are more and more BJJ schools becoming available to you, the consumer. At Crosse Training you will be under the close guidance of highly regarded and experienced BJJ Black Belt, Tyrone Crosse, one of John Will’s first Black Belt students.

BJJ Australia, the original Brazilian Jiu Jitsu network here in Australia, was founded by John and is the official arm of Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Australasia. BJJ Australia is a non-political forum in which Machado Jiu Jitsu stylists can come together for competition, seminars and socialization. As ‘quality control’ has always been a Machado trademark, new members are admitted only after having sufficiently demonstrated a commitment to training. A strong work ethic, regular practice and a willingness to network with others and uphold standards are all pre-requisites for Crosse Training members.

Muaythai is a high-energy martial art that teaches students to develop maximum power with every technique. Although it is an explosive art that has techniques of unparalleled devestation, you can purely train for fitnes or aim towards comeptition if that becomes your desire.

Each session incorporates shadow sparring, partner drills and pad work to enhance focus, timing, speed and power. Using the WMA Muaythai syllabus we have a very high importance on forming students with correct technique as these are the fundamentals upon which a successful fighter is born!
